Longtime Detroit Radio News Reporter, Anchor Dead At 65: Report

A longtime Detroit radio news anchor died Sunday, according to the station.

DETROIT — A longtime Detroit radio news anchor died Sunday, according to the station.

WWJ Newsradio 950 reporter and anchor Mike Campbell died on Sunday. He was 65 and leaves behind his wife Terri, his children, his extended family and many friends.

No cause of death was given. Funeral arrangements were pending.

Campbell was best known for covering news in the metro Detroit region for nearly three decades.

"He was a fearless and excellent reporter, with unique style — a way of talking to and connecting with the people who were a part of the stories he told," the station said of him.

In the announcement, the station cited many stories Campbell was known for, including in 2019 when he found a missing 89-year-old woman in Shelby Township while reporting on the case.

The Oakland County Road Commission also offered a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Campbell’s passing:

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends and colleagues of Mike Campbell at @WWJ950. Mike was truly one of a kind. We always appreciated his visits and the honest, thoughtful way he covered the RCOC. He was a solid journalist who reported the facts with integrity."
