Michigan Adds 5,772 New Coronavirus Cases, 62 Deaths Wednesday

The state has reported more than 277,000 cases of the coronavirus as of Wednesday.

MICHIGAN — Michigan on Wednesday added more than 5,700 new cases of the coronavirus, according to state health officials.

The state reported 5,772 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Michigan to 277,806. Michigan also reported an additional 62 COVID-19 deaths, increasing the death toll in the state to 8,190.

State health officials in Michigan reported more than 7,000 new cases of the coronavirus and nearly 80 more deaths on Tuesday. As of Friday, the state had reported that more than 138,000 cases of the coronavirus resulted in recovery.

Michigan is 11th in the U.S. in reported coronavirus cases, according to the World Health Organization. The state has been rising in the rankings of state with the most reported cases in recent days; it began last week ranked No. 14 in the U.S. Michigan is 10th in the nation in reported coronavirus deaths.

More than 11.7 million COVID-19 cases have been reported across the U.S., which leads the world in reported cases, according to the World Health Organization. The U.S. is also the worldwide leader in reported COVID-19 deaths, having reported more than 255,000 fatalities. More than 7.1 million people in the U.S. have reportedly recovered from the virus.

According to the World Health Organization, over 56.3 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported worldwide as of Wednesday morning. Those reported cases include more than 1.3 million deaths attributed to the virus. The number also includes over 39.2 million cases which have reportedly resulted in recovery.

More than 15.7 million cases of the virus remain active worldwide.
