Michigan: High Number Of Coronavirus Cases Due To Tech Issue

The state reported its highest single-day increase of coronavirus cases Thursday, but officials said a tech issue caused a data error.

MICHIGAN — Michigan reported its highest single-day increase in new coronavirus cases Thursday, but officials said the high number of cases is due to a slowdown in the reporting of electronic laboratory results and that Thursday's numbers included cases that should have been reported Wednesday.

State health officials said 2,030 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Michigan Thursday morning. The increase brings Michigan's coronavirus case total to 141,091.

Officials later said that tens of thousands of test results are sent to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services electronically and that Thursday evening, a slowdown in the processing of the messages was noted. The issue has since been resolved, officials said.
