Michigan Sets Another New Coronavirus Record Thursday

The state added more than 5,000 new cases of the coronavirus Thursday.

MICHIGAN — For the second consecutive day, Michigan has set a record for new coronavirus cases.

The state on Thursday reported 5,710 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the statewide total of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 197,806. Michigan also added 51 new COVID-19 deaths, increasing the coronavirus death toll in the state to 7,470.

Michigan reported 4,101 new cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday, which was at the time by far the state's highest single-day increase. As of Saturday, more than 121,000 people in Michigan had recovered from the coronavirus, according to state health officials.

According to the World Health Organization, Michigan is 14th in the U.S. in reported COVID-19 cases. That state is 10th in the nation in reported COVID-19 deaths.

More than 9.8 million coronavirus cases have been reported in the U.S., according to the World Health Organization. Over 240,000 deaths attributed to the virus have been reported in the U.S., and more than 6.3 million COVID-19 recoveries have been reported.

Over 48.8 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. That number includes more than 1.2 million COVID-19 deaths and over 34.8 million recoveries from the virus.
