MICHIGAN — More than 8,000 people in Michigan have died from COVID-19, state health officials said Monday.
Since Saturday, the state has reported 12,763 new cases of the virus, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan to 264,576. During that same timeframe, the state said 55 people died from COVID-19, increasing the coronavirus death toll in Michigan to 8,049.
More than 138,000 people in Michigan have recovered from the virus, officials said Saturday.

According to the World Health Organization, Michigan is 13th in the U.S. in reported COVID-19 cases. The state ranks 10th in the nation in reported COVID-19 deaths.

More than 11.4 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported in the U.S., according to the World Health Organization. Over 252,000 people in the U.S. have died from the virus, while nearly 7 million have recovered from the virus.
Over 55.2 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. That includes more than 1.3 million deaths attributed to the virus, as well as over 38.3 million recoveries.
