ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — During a recent visit to the Detroit Institute of Arts, a group of seniors from Avon Tower in Rochester Hills received lessons in French culture and history during a guided tour of the museum’s French art collection. The group visited and toured the museum as part of “Thursdays at the Museum,” a free program for adults age 55 and older at the DIA.

“We really enjoyed our tour of the Fashionable Living Gallery and learning about French art, history and culture while at the DIA for Thursdays at the Museum,” said Mary Phillips, an Avon Tower resident and the organizer of the trip. “This was the first time visiting the DIA for many in our group and they loved it! They’re already asking me to plan another trip so they can experience more art from across the globe.”

During Thursdays at the Museum, adults 55 and over from Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties visit the DIA to enjoy a wide range of free programs and activities centered around art, history and culture that they can’t experience in books, on TV or online.

Thursdays at the Museum offers special programs like film screenings, lectures, art-making and tours, along with a complimentary cookie and coffee reception.
