Severe Storms Possible Across Detroit Area Thursday Amid High Heat, Humidity

All of southeastern Michigan is under a heat advisory Thursday as heat indexes could reach 102 degrees.

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — Severe thunderstorms are possible across southeastern Michigan Thursday amid high heat and humidity, according to the National Weather Service.

The chances for storms increase during the afternoon and evening hours when highs hit the 90s with the real feel in the triple digits, the weather service said.

Forecasters warned any storm that pops up will be capable of producing strong winds up to 60 miles per hour, large hail and heavy downpours that can quickly dump up to 2 inches of rain. Tornadoes also cannot be ruled out.

All of southeastern Michigan is under a heat advisory Thursday as heat indexes could reach 102 degrees. The region is also under a marginal (level 1/5) threat for severe storms on Thursday.

Friday will stay warm and humid with the chance for rain across southeastern Michigan, the weather service said.

More storms will be possible Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the region close to 90 degrees, the weather service said.
