Severe Storms Thursday Afternoon, 60mph Winds, Possible Tornado

SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN — A severe storm warning is in effect for the region as storms move into the area.

The hazardous weather outlook is in effect for Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Lenawee and Livingston counties. A severe thunderstorm is expected in the afternoon between 2-7 p.m.

Temperatures are pleasantly high for a March day in Michigan at above 60 degrees, but the storm will bring wind gusts up to 60 mph.

There is also a slight risk for a brief tornado to develop, according to the National Weather Service.

Periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly after 1pm. High near 63. South wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 11pm, then scattered showers and thunderstorms between 11pm and 2am. Low around 42. Windy, with a southwest wind 21 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday
Rain likely, mainly between 11am and 5pm. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 40 by 5pm. Breezy, with a west southwest wind 17 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

A chance of rain before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. West wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
