Up to an inch of fresh snow is expected across the Detroit area Wednesday when an arctic airmass moves into the region, according to the National Weather Service.

The light snow showers will move into the area sometime between 9 and 11 a.m. Wednesday when temperatures begin falling toward freezing levels, the weather service said.

It will only get colder from there, as lows fall to near single digits with wind chill readings dropping to as low as -1 degrees, the weather service said.
