Wayne County Sheriff Hospitalized With Coronavirus

Family members said his hospital stay began last week and noted that his health is improving.

WAYNE COUNTY, MI — Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon is in the hospital with the coronavirus, family members said in a post on Napoleon's Facebook page.

"His symptoms have progressed and he has since been admitted into the hospital," his daughter, Tiffani Jackson, said in a post Saturday. "He is alert but resting and committed to getting well soon."

Napoleon, 65, first reported that he had tested positive for the coronavirus Thursday, also in a post on his Facebook page.

"Friends, as many of you may have heard, I recently tested positive for COVID-19," he said. "I’m experiencing very mild symptoms; my spirits are high and my faith is strong."

Another post, made about an hour later on Thursday, was prefaced by the poster saying they were Napoleon's daughter. That post thanked people for their support.

On Friday, Napoleon's daughter posted that her father had been admitted to a local hospital. Another post on Saturday said the Napoleons were "overjoyed with the amount of prayers and warm wishes that we’ve received over night."

Napoleon had tested negative for the coronavirus on Dec. 13, according to The Detroit News, but began seeing increased symptoms on Tuesday. Another test, given Thursday, resulted in a positive result.
