Dexter's Dad's Service, LLC Provides Interior Home Maintenance

Dave Laird, owner of Dad's Service, LLC in Dexter, said he was inspired to start his own business after being laid off.

"After being laid off from another computer engineering position, I fell back on old skills learned by maintaining the homes in which I've lived," Laird said.

How did your business come to be?: After being laid off from another computer engineering position, I fell back on old skills learned by maintaining the homes in which I've lived.  I worked part-time at a hardware store and a storm/screen shop before hiring on as a handyman contractor. The latter did not work out well, so I decided to hang out my shingle. A little networking and some fliers and business cards around the area lead to filing a DBA on 8/2003 and a subsequent LLC incorporation on 11/2004.

What kind of services do you offer?: Basically, interior home maintenance. I do plumbing (leaks, toilets, faucets, refrigerator water lines...) and electrical (lamps, GFIs, basement drops, ceiling fans...) repair. Also, window and door issues or replacement, appliance installs (food disposers, dishwashers, microwave ovens,...) and tile work.

What's a fact about your business that most customers probably don't know?: I offer both single parent and senior citizen discounts, and if I can't do the work you need, I won't charge you for the time or the trip.

What do you want your business to be best known for?: Workmanship, timely service and the ability to alleviate your annoyances.

What's your most popular product or service?: Repairing leaky faucets.

When was the business founded?: August, 2003.

Why did you choose to locate to Dexter?: This is where I live; a great little village next to the big city.
