Southfield City Council approves controversial data center plan (freep.com subscription) — A massive $1.5 billion data center has been approved in Southfield just south of I-696 along the Farmington Hills line, drawing strong opposition from nearby residents, including at least one from Farmington Hills. Neighbors worry about heavy power use, possible pollution, noise, and limited permanent jobs, while the developer promises a closed-loop water system and dozens of positions once DTE can supply power in 2027 or 2028.

Farmington Hills seventh-grader wins Radon Poster Contest (orionontv.org) — A Warner Middle School seventh-grader from Farmington Hills has won Michigan’s 2025 Radon Poster Contest, beating out entries from across the state with a design warning that “Radon is a Silent Killer.” Her poster now advances to the National Radon Poster Contest, where it will compete for cash prizes, while state officials encourage residents to learn more about radon testing and lung cancer prevention.

Prominent Metro Detroiters busted in child porn sting (fox2detroit.com) — A Farmington Hills physician is among three Metro Detroit men facing federal child pornography charges after an FBI sting based in Toledo. Authorities say phones seized in the investigation contained numerous illegal images and messages, and all three defendants could face at least five years in prison if convicted. A grand jury may still add further charges.

A Farmington Hills state representative is protesting the loss, warning it comes amid rising antisemitism and Holocaust denial, while Republican leaders frame the move as a push for tighter oversight and future negotiating leverage.
