HOLLY, MI — The owners of the popular and historic Holly Hotel are selling the business after 46 years, according to a social media post.

The building, which was built in 1891, is listed for $899,000 under Larry Schultz at Friedman Real Estate in Farmington Hills.

Owners George and Chrissy Kutlenios said they’ve made the difficult decision to sell the historic building.

"To all we have welcomed into our establishment, it has been the honor of a lifetime to serve you. We fervently hope the Historic Holly Hotel’s legacy will continue in new hands," the couple wrote in the post.

The hotel has been closed since June 2022 when a fire from a nearby business damaged part of the building. It was the third time the building had caught fire. It burned in 1913 and again in 1978.

The hotel owners said they have been trying to renovate and reopen the hotel, but ongoing legation over property lines has prevented that process.

Schultz told The Detroit News that most of the renovations are done, except for the western exterior wall, which doesn't have brick yet.

"This is going to be somebody's project, but the good news is they've got good, solid bare bones to go with, and when they're done, they can rebuild this in their image of what the Holly Hotel should be," Schultz told the newspaper.

The Holly Hotel is listed on the United States Register of Historic Places. Two other Michigan sites were recently added to that list.

The hotel’s website says it is the "most haunted historic building in Michigan."
