Robohawks 'Spruce Goose' Wins Award at Lawrence Tech Festival

The team's project combined robotics and art in a small, mechanical model for the November competition.

A Farmington Hills-based student robotics team took home a Judges Award Lawrence Technological University’s inaugural Global Robotics Art Festival (GRAF), held Nov. 23 at Macomb Community College’s Expo Center. 

The Robohawks team, coached by Barry Brouillette, combined robotics and art in "Spruce Goose", a small mechanical model that abstractly depicts a cam shaft in an artistic way. Spruce Goose is made entirely out of wood, and uses motors and sensors and plays a random light show.  

Fourteen teams competed in the inaugural GRAF, held in conjunction with the Eighth Annual RoboParade.
