The four Lake Fenton basketball players helped power the Michigan Hoopers 16U Black AAU team to a league championship this summer. The squad claimed the title in a tough Detroit League. The season started in June, with games being played on weekends. The squad won the championship Aug. 3.

β€œIt was a lot tougher than anything around here,” said Welch, a Lake Fenton junior.

The team went 8-2 in the regular season and playoffs. The Hoopers battled back from an 18-point deficit to win in the semifinals and then claimed a win in the finals to earn the championship.

β€œIt felt awesome. I couldn’t believe it,” Burke said. β€œWe played our best game in the final game. It was fantastic.”

The players hope to contribute to the Lake Fenton varsity squad this winter and believe their summer experience will help the team.

β€œIt will help us in building chemistry and help us take our game up a level,” Welch said.
