Once inside, he found her dead inside a bedroom, according to police.
Investigators determined the cause of death to be strangulation and suffocation.
The brother told officers that Hall's 39-year-old son, James Hall, had been living in the home with her for the past few months. He also said that Kristine Hall was afraid of her son and slept with her bedroom door locked at night.
While speaking to family members, investigators learned that Kristine's daughter called to report that James had contacted their father and admitted to killing his mother, according to police.
Investigators then learned that Kalamazoo officers arrived at a party store in their city where a man was thinking about killing himself. When officers arrived, they found James Hall inside Kristine's stolen car that was parked outside the store, according to police.
After he was arrested, James Hall told investigators that he got into an argument. He said that Kristine was scolding him for his life choices and for not amounting to anything. He said he was tired of hearing it, so he climbed on top of her and used a pillow to smother her to death, according to police.
After she died, he took her money and jewelry along with her vehicle and drove to Kalamazoo where he used the stolen money to gamble at a local casino, according to police.
"James Hall was angry his mother was parenting him…so he killed her. He took the life, ... that gave him life. Then he took her money, her jewelry and her vehicle because he was challenged on his life choices. Then he went to a casino," Holly Police Chief Jerry Narsh said.
