Throughout April, maintenance work will be performed on all Oakland County outdoor warning sirens. Once the work is completed at each siren, it will be tested for about 30 seconds to ensure that it is in proper working order; so you will hear the normal siren sound, but just for a short burst.
The actual outdoor warning siren lasts for three minutes. If you hear a siren for the full three minutes, seek shelter immediately.
If you hear it for only 30 seconds, it is only a test.
The Oakland County Homeland Security Division is working with ASTI Environmental to update the County's Hazard Mitigation Plan. Updating the plan is required to maintain access to federal pre- and post-disaster funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.Β If you are interested in attending public meetings, participating, looking for additional information or would just like to keep apprised of the progress, ASTI has created an Oakland County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update website specifically for this purpose.
