Mayor Neeley Lowers City Flag In Honor Of Flint Police Captain

FLINT, Michigan – Mayor Sheldon Neeley has ordered the flag at Flint City Hall lowered to half-staff to honor the life and legacy of Captain Collin Birnie.

At the Flint police Department Captian Birnie was the Patrol Bureau Commander, the Bomb Squad Commander, Tactical Team Commander, Lead Firearms Instructor as well as numerous other duties at the department over the course of his long and prestigious career. Prior to his law enforcement career Captain Birnie served in the Marines during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.

Captain Collin Birnie passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2022, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 711 S. Saginaw Street in downtown Flint. Police and Military honors to follow on S. Saginaw Street, in front of the church. Church seating is reserved for designated family and friends, and Flint Police personnel (current and retired). The service will be live streamed at the Capitol Theatre, 140 E Second Street, for all other attendees, including non Flint PD law enforcement and civilians. Attendees should plan to arrive early enough to allow extra time for parking and to arrive at the proper location as there will be numerous street closures in the area.

Captain Collin is survived by his wife, Tina; children, Marista (Damon) Dryden, and Bailey (Blas) Ramirez; granddaughters, Evelyn and Jacqueline; father, Reed Birnie; mother and step-father, Stephanie and Jack Webb; sister, Nicole (Nick) Tefft; and nephews, Brevik and Barrett.

The City of Flint flag at City Hall will remain at half-staff until Monday, February 14, in honor of Captain Birnie’s service to the greater Flint community.
