Bank of America Brings Financial Literacy Workshop to Grand Rapids Summer Campers
Bank of America brought its Better Money Habits financial literacy program to Marvelous Lifestyles tween and teen summer campers
On July 15, Bank of America partnered with Marvelous Lifestyles to host a hands-on financial literacy workshop for a group of middle and high school students attending the organization’s Future Wealth Builders summer camp at Calvin University.
Led by Meaghan Madison, a Bank of America Financial Center manager, the session was part of the bank’s Better Money Habits® program, which offers real-world financial education tools tailored to empower young people with essential money management skills.
During the 90-minute interactive workshop, around 30 campers, ages 11 to 15, learned how to read a paycheck, build a personal budget, manage spending, and develop healthier financial habits. The session also encouraged open conversations about financial goals and the long-term value of saving early.
“Introducing financial literacy at this age helps build a strong foundation for future success,” said Madison. “It was great to see how engaged the students were. Helping them think about saving, spending, and budgeting now can make a big difference later in life.”
Marvelous Lifestyles is a Grand Rapids-based nonprofit that provides educational and outreach programming to promote growth and prosperity among youth and families. The organization’s Future Wealth Builders initiative is focused on life skills, career readiness, and financial empowerment for middle and high school students. The summer camp experience offers a unique blend of classroom learning, hands-on activities, and mentorship.
Better Money Habits is part of Bank of America’s broader commitment to economic mobility. Across the country, thousands of bank employees lead financial literacy sessions in schools, nonprofits, and community centers. These workshops aim to provide practical knowledge that supports smarter decision-making and long-term financial wellness.
The event was hosted at Calvin University’s Hiemenga Hall, with campers participating in guided activities and group discussions. Organizers say they hope this is just the beginning of a longer partnership to expand financial education in the Grand Rapids area.
