Here are the top stories today in Grand Rapids:

  1. Judge Curt Benson sentenced Jason McCann, 46, to 10 to 15 years in prison. McCann recently pleaded guilty to two counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault, resulting in death, and two counts of reckless driving causing death. Todd and Tracy Fuhr, both 56, died after McCann’s 2010 Ford Taurus blew through a stop sign about 11:15 p.m. and struck the couple. He then left the scene but he was identified and located after police received a tip and found him at a residence on Grand Rapids’ west side. (MLive.com)
  2. A jobs board and career advice website put Grand Rapids near the top on a list of the best small cities for job opportunities. CareerBuilder this month published a report, Top 20 small and mid-sized U.S. cities for jobs, and Grand Rapids came in at No. 8 on the small cities list based on the number of jobs available in CareerBuilder’s database, which for Grand Rapids, was 75 jobs per 1,000 people.
