Merrill Lynch’s Tim Long Named to the 2025 Barron’s "Top 100 Financial Advisors” List

Grand Rapids-based financial advisor has more than three decades of leadership in wealth management

Tim Long, Managing Director and Wealth Management Advisor with Merrill Lynch in Grand Rapids, has been named to the 2025 Barron’s list of Top 100 Financial Advisors. Long has been with Merrill Lynch for more than 30 years, providing wealth management guidance to individuals, families and institutions across Michigan and beyond.

A recognized leader in wealth management, Long has consistently earned national recognition throughout his career. His achievements include repeated appearances on prestigious rankings such as Barron’s Top 1,200 Financial Advisors (2019, 2021–2025), Barron’s Top 100 Private Wealth Management Teams (2022), Barron’s Top 100 Institutional Consulting Teams (2021–2024), Forbes’ America’s Top Wealth Advisors(2021–2025), and Forbes’ Best-in-State Wealth Advisors (2020–2025). Collectively, these recognitions reflect more than a decade of consistent excellence in client service and industry leadership.

This year, Merrill Lynch holds the No. 2 position nationwide, with 20 advisors named to the Barron’s Top 100 Financial Advisors list, including seven Financial Advisors and 13 Private Wealth Advisors.

Long and his team deliver a wide range of wealth management services, including investment management, retirement strategies, estate and legacy planning, asset preservation, and guidance for philanthropic giving. He is also a member of Merrill Institutional Consulting, a select group of advisors specializing in meeting the complex needs of institutional clients.

He is a graduate of the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, and earned his MBA summa cum laude from St. John’s University in New York. Long also holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) designation from the Investments & Wealth Institute™ at the Wharton School.

Outside of his professional work, Long serves as a board member for Hope College, Grand Rapids Community Foundation and Camp Geneva and is Co-Chair of the Board of Governors at the Van Andel Institute. He has previously served on boards for the Christian Schools International U.S. Christian School Pension, Ada Christian School Education Foundation, and the University of Michigan Health-West Foundation. An avid runner, he has completed 10 marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 2013. Long lives in Grand Rapids with his wife, Kim, and their four children.
