Here are the top stories in Grand Rapids today:
- Grand Rapids has purchased 35 new bus shelters to be installed across the city by Oct. 2022. The bus shelters will be placed along existing routes in the city and will have solar-powered lighting, if there isn’t a nearby light source. The purchase is part of the city’s goal to make investments in transit to provide a better level of service for residents. (MLive.com)
- A man was sentenced for a hit-and-run crash that killed a Grand Rapid couple in 2019. Jason McCann, 46, was sentenced Thursday to a maximum of 15 years in prison for two counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault resulting in death and two counts of reckless driving causing death. McCann had ran a stop sign at Oakes Street SW and Grandville Ave. in downtown Grand Rapids on the night of Oct. 19, 2019, hitting pedestrians Todd and Tracy Curtis Fuhr, who were in the crosswalk before driving off. - Grand Rapids is planning a meet-and-greet for community members to learn more about the city’s new Cure Violence program and the people tasked with carrying it out. (MLive.com)
