Here are the top stories in Grand Rapids today:

  1. A task force is accepting ideas for reducing violent crime in Grand Rapids. The Grand Rapids’ Safe Alliances for Everyone task force will host another Pitch and Highlight Night on Nov. 17 at Ottawa Hills High School, as a way to hear more ideas for lowering violence in communities. The task force plans to award up to $10,000 each to five nonprofit organizations for their ideas and efforts to reduce violence in the community, and $1,000 to three individuals to support their concepts.   2. Wahlburgers is coming to Grand Rapids on Nov. 1, opening a first of its kind restaurant in West Michigan. The restaurant, located inside the new Residence Inn by Marriott on Fulton St. at Ionia Ave. NW, will seat about 100 people inside and another 40 to 50 people outside when the patio opens in the spring. General Manager Cory Knight says he carefully curated the restaurant’s beer menu to reflect Grand Rapids’ Beer City standing, offering drinks such as Mitten Brewing’s Triple Crown Brown, Bell’s Two Hearted, and Founders All Day IPA.   3. Planet Fitness has opened a new downtown location at 234 Market Ave. SW, marking its fifth Grand Rapids-area location. (GR|MAG)
  4. The Grand Rapids Police Department will be evaluated by members of the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, and the community can weigh in on how they think the department is doing by providing comments to the assessment team by phone or email. (WOODTV.com)
