Here are the top stories today in Grand Rapids:
- A sculpture by world-renowned Spanish artist Jaume Plensa has been installed in downtown Grand Rapids. The installation of the 16-foot-tall, stainless-steel sculpture “The Four Elements” was completed on Friday at the northeast corner of Monroe Avenue NW and Lyon Street NW. The 5,400-pound sculpture, constructed in Spain, uses latter characters and element symbols representing air, water, fire, and earth to create a human form, signifying the many different characteristics that bring people together to form a single human race. - A local volunteer group hopes to receive 1,000 dozen homemade cookies to donate to the troops. Grand Rapids Cookies with a Cause will be hosting its third annual Cookie Drive for Troops on Dec. 11. The group collects cookie donations from the community and ships them overseas to U.S. military bases. Interested individuals are asked to bake cookies at home and drop them off at one of their pick-up locations in disposable containers labeled with what type of cookie they are. (WZZM13.com)
- Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park is decked out for the holidays with Christmas trees and 300,000 lights. (News/Talk 94.9 WSJM)
- Grand Rapids Tidal Waves, an all women's tackle football league, will be hosting their toy drive for the 5th year. (Fox17)
- A Korean barbecue and karaoke restaurant, K-ROK Grand Rapids, has opened downtown at 169 Louis Campau Promenade, across the street from Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids. (GR|MAG)
