Here are the top three stories in Grand Rapids today:

  1. A woman was arrested for forging attorney letters to inmates which were used to smuggle narcotics into Kent County Jail. Police got suspicious after an attorney received a return-to-sender letter that was originally sent to an inmate who was no longer in prison. When he called the Sherriff's office, he told them he had never sent the letter. Later in the investigation, a narcotics team found suspects forging mail as if they were attorneys using attorney-client privilege to get drugs into the jail. On May 9, six people were arrested for drug and firearm-related charges, including Shannon Soltys, who has been arrested for creating the fake documents. (WWMT-TV)
  2. The East Grand Rapids Park Concerts and Movies in the Park series is returning this June. The event will be held in John Collins Park and will feature four movies each on Friday nights through the summer. A few of the movies include Top Gun and Shazam! Music at the Park will be held on six Mondays throughout June and July and will include Simply in Time, Austin Benzing, and Prior Noon. GR Parks and Recreation encourages everyone to bring their own chairs and blankets and welcomes dogs as long as they are leashed. (MLive.com)
  3. Two people now face charges after a child brought a gun to a Grand Rapids Elementary on May 3. Aubrey Wilson, 32, and Chelsea Berkley, 29, are facing charges after police say one of the suspects brought the gun home and the other left it in a place where the child could get to it. Wilson, the mother of the second grader, is accused of fourth-degree child abuse and Berkley faces one charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. In Michigan, children under ten are considered criminally incompetent and will not be held accountable. The case is still open and under investigation due to the discovery of the gun being reported as stolen. (WOODTV.com)
