School Board Recognizes Doctor, Athletes

The Grosse Pointe Public School Board recognized several people Jan. 24 for outstanding performances. Among those are:

The varsity teams of South Girls Cross Country and the South Boys Tennis earned the regional championship title this year.Β 

North senior Nicole Strickland, who plays on the North Girls Field Hockey team, was named an all-state player. Her performance athletically and academically were commended by the board.Β

The board also honored Dr. Russ Chavey for his climb on Mount Kilimanjaro to help earn money for an on-going technology fundraising effort. Chavey's climb was chronicled in a blog maintained on the Grosse Pointe Foundation for Public Education's web site.Β 

In other news, a $180,000 donation by the Foundation was approved by the school board to implement additional technology in secondary schools.
