A few things to get your day started in Grosse Pointe.Â
1. Today is expected to be mostly sunny with calm winds and a high near 87, according to the National Weather Service 7-Day Forecast. After 2 p.m. there is a 30 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms with a low near 69.
2. city offices remain closed today following the holiday for one of the furlough days instituted as a money saving measure. The offices will reopen Wednesday with normal hours.

3. Rubbish collection in all of the Grosse Pointes is delayed by one day this week due to the holiday. So if collection is normally Monday, it'll be today; if it's Tuesday, then it'll be Wednesday, and so on.Â
4. Today is the last day to register for the primary election Aug. 2. The terms for the entire city council and the mayor expire this year, which means all of the seats are open. All of the terms are expiring at the same time as part of the transition from a village to a city. In this election, the top three vote getters will serve a four year term and the lesser vote getters will each serve two year terms to get the council back on a rotation schedule.Â
