GPWSLL Heading to Finals After Another Dramatic Victory

The Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores Woods Little League is one win away from the Little League World Series.

The Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores Woods Little League players may be called the "cardiac kids' after another dramatic, late-game victory.

With a single swing of a bat in the bottom of the sixth inning, the team from Michigan defeated the Hamilton West Side All-Stars to move onto Saturday's Little League Great Lakes Regional Tournament final in Indianapolis.

Trailing 4-2, Tommy Maxey stepped up to the plate with two on and hit a three-run home run to clinch the victory, according to WJBK-TV. The win propels the team into the championship game Saturday against the winner of the Jackie Robinson West vs. Burlington game.

"They don't quit. They believe in themselves," said Tom Mazzola, manager of the Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores Little League team. "They know they can compete with anyone."

This was GPWSLL second straight victor over Hamilton. The teams were tied Tuesday going into the bottom of the sixth, and won the game on a walk-off base hit.

The winner of the championship game advances to the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
