Grosse Pointe Farms Officers Credited With Disarming Suicidal Man
Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety officers may be nominated for awards.

Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety officers managed to disarm a 20-year-old man threatening self harm and allegedly attempting “suicide by cop,” according to police reports. Officers were called to the Wendy’s at 18800 Mack Ave. December 7, around 7:30 p.m., when people called about a man outside the fast food spot’s drive-thru holding a knife and covered in blood.
Officer Matthew Hurner told C&G Newspapers the man failed to comply with police directions to drop his weapon and get on the ground. Instead, police say the individual yelled “Shoot me.”
After police threatened him with a taser, the man dropped his knife, and officers were able to subdue him and get him to a hospital for further assistance. Officers Matthew Hurner and Paul Reygaert may be considered for 2017 merit award because of their actions in disarming the man without injuring him or bystanders.
