On the 11-year anniversary of 9/11, Grosse Pointe high schoolers are using flags to remember the victims of the attack. U.S. flags are already lining the sidewalks of and a large display of flags will be built throughout the day at .

Grosse Pointe South Principal Matt Outlaw said a student group placed the flags--about 3,000--on the lawn for the memorial. Additionally, students will hear an announcement address at 9:11 a.m. today, he said.

The Grosse Pointe North Chapter of Young Americans for Freedom--a student organization--will be placing nearly 3,000 flags on the school's lawn throughout the day, chapter chairman Grant Strobl said.

Students from social studies classes will add to the flag display throughout the day and the organization is sponsoring a school-wide moment of silence, Strobl said. This is the second time the student organization has done such a flag display--last year, the 10-year anniversary--being the first.

Both schools have choosen to use one flag for each person who died as a result of the attacks. North's display will be open for public viewing at 4 p.m. South's is easily visible from Kercehval Avenue or Fisher Road anytime.
