Meet Superintendent Candidate Richard Machesky
The third and final candidate in the search for a new Grosse Pointe Public Schools superintendent will have his community reception at 5:30 p.m. today, July 12. His second interview with the school board will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Richard Machesky, one of three men interviewing for the  superintendent position, will have his community reception at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12 in the  student commons area.Â
His second interview before the school board is the same day beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Grosse Pointe South auditorium.Â
Machesky is the current assistant superintendent for secondary education at the Troy School District. He's held the position for four years.

Previously, Machesky worked for Utica Community Schools most recently as the executive director of secondary education and before that as a high school principal, assistant middle school principal and as a world history/government/physical education teacher for Lutheran High School East in Harper Woods, according to his application.
He earned his doctorate in education and master's in educational leadership from Wayne State University and his bachelor's from Calvin College in history. He also earned his education specialist degree from Wayne State University.

Machesky is the last of the final three candidates to have his community reception and second board interview. He is the only one of the three who in the interviewing process.Â
His current district, Troy School District, has 12,000 students enrolled and a $137-million budget. Previously Machesky worked as a director of secondary education, a principal and an associate principal.
The Grosse Pointe district is searching for a new superintendent to replace its longest-serving employee in the role, C. Suzanne Klein.  in December and will have been in the position for 15 years when she retires.Â
All of the candidates completed their first interview with the school board in June. The district recorded the interviews and televised them after all were complete. Watch the interviews here.
