Patch Welcomes HuffPost Detroit

HuffPost Detroit launched Thursday to deliver news and views about the Motor City to you.

Arianna Huffington—president and editor-in-chief of the AOL Huffington Post Media Group—introduced the site in her blog, and she promises HuffPost Detroit will “provide an alternative to the knee-jerk narrative the national media love to tell about Detroit.”

“HuffPost Detroit will cover both sides of the city's split-screen—for Detroit, beyond the oversimplified myth of its past, and beyond the unimaginative visions of its future, is in fact a city of incredible contrasts,” Huffington wrote.

Simone Landon, the editor, said that that her hometown is the “only place that matters.” Detroit has seen it all, from big problems to big triumphs, and it is a unique community unlike any other in the world.

Landon grew up in Detroit, and she is proud of the city. “But the idea that Detroit is all good is just as detrimental as the idea that Detroit is all bad,” she wrote in her introductory blog.

Today's launch of HuffPost Detroit includes reports on Michigan’s film industry and the controversy over the Ambassador Bridge.

In addition, HuffPost Detroit features engaging blogs by Detroiters such as Rep. Hansen Clarke, Michigan state representative Rashida Tlaib, and Slows Bar B Q owner Phillip Cooley.

HuffPo Detroit will also highlight regional stories from Patch, such as Royal Oak Patch’s report on the premiere of Mitch Albom’s latest movie and Wyandotte Patch's story on how who rely on public transportation for a ride to and from school.
