Photo Gallery: Mackinac Race Finish Line

Check out some photos shared with Patch by Joan Watton from the finish line of the Race to Mackinac. The race began with 216 boats.

The 2011 Bell's Beer Bayview Race to Mackinac began with 216 boats. Some had to withdraw due to mechanical or other problems during the race--the world's longest running fresh water competition. 

Results have been posted and are still be finalized by officials of Bayview Yacht Club. Their website is the hub of information from the race. 

According to the participant list, competed across five divisions and two courses. According to the standings, a few boats arrived to the island Sunday. Most crossed the finish line Monday and a few on Tuesday.

Joan Watton shared pictures from the race--both and from the finish line complete with celebrations by hundreds of crew members.

In addition to photos, --from the boat Blitz. This was her 20th Mackinac Race and she worked with a crew of all men from throughout the Detroit metro area.

According to standings on the site as of 2:30 p.m. Thursday July 28, several Grosse Pointers did well in the race. A few highlights:

Cove Island Course

  • Weather Edge III, owned by Colton Weatherston, of the Farms, took first place
  • La Buena Vida, owned by William D. Gilbride Jr., of the Park, took second in the same class
  • Falcon, owned by Bayer, Bayer, Barnes, of the Park, took first place in the Level 35 Class

Shore Course

  • Contender, owned by Gary Graham, of the City, took first place in the CC 35 Class
  • Eliminator, owned by Paul Von Tol, of the Park, took first place in the PHRF E Class
  • Freedom, owned by James Cooper, of the Park, took first place in the Cruising A Class
  • Pogo, owned by Fred Bellamy, of the Park, took first place in the Cruising B Class
  • Mystic, owned by Dennis A Dettmer, of the Park, took first place in the Cruising C Class
