Police Blotter: Arrests in Vehicle Thefts
The following information is gathered from the public safety departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

and Michigan State police arrested three teenagers July 7 for stealing a minivan from a home in the 1100 block of Audubon. Officers responded to a complaint about a vehicle with suspicious people but they couldn't find anyone. A short time later, three teens led Michigan State Police on a pursuit in a minivan stolen from the home on Audubon Road. All three were arrested about 2:45 a.m. The teens are 14, 16 and 17. The oldest is from the 3000 of Buckingham while the others are from nearby neighborhoods in Detroit, according to a report.
In another similar but unrelated case, Grosse Pointe Park police arrested a 24-year-old Detroit man July 10 after finding a stolen vehicle parked in his driveway on Ashland. The 1997 Dodge Intrepid was stolen from the 1200 block of Wayburn overnight.

One of three bicycles stolen from the 1400 block of Grayton and 1200 block of Whittier July 9 and 10 was recovered by a patrol officer late July 10. The officer spotted the bicycle on Audubon in Detroit and when he stopped the man with the bicycle ran away. The bicycles stolen were unlocked on the front yard and from an open garage, according to a report.
A Grosse Pointe Park resident reported the theft of a kayak from its storage unit in the 16000 block of Essex. The kayak is orange and yellow, according to a report.Â

Storm response
DTE set up a watch on the wires behind a home in the 10 block of Willow Tree Lane July 12 to 13 after a storm that caused a line to collapse into several yards. The crews stayed overnight to monitor the situation and residents who didn't call to report the downed line were contacted and advised of it by police. At least two other lines were found severely drooping in backyards and residents were warned to not allow pets to go outside due to the dangerous conditions. On July 11, a tree limb took out another set of wires in the 20 block of Hawthorne Road.Â
Grosse Pointe Park police responded to downed tree limbs blocking the roadway near Vernor and Yorkshire July 9. The limbs were removed from the street by the highway department.
ArrestsÂ
The Wayne County Sheriff's Department Marine Division arrested two men July 12 on Lake St. Clair for outstanding warrants. The men were taken by boat to the Grosse Pointe Farms Pier Park and then housed in the Grosse Pointe Shores lockup. The 33-year-old Eastpointe man had a child support case in which he was wanted, according to a Grosse Pointe Shores police report. It is unknown what type of warrant was involved with the other man, 47, from Southfield.
Grosse Pointe Shores police arrested a 27-year-old Detroit woman after she lost control of the 1998 GMC Astro van she was driving July 10 in the 1000 block of Lake Shore road and struck a tree. The crash resulted in damaged sod, damage to the tree and to the van. Police received complaints about a possible drunk driver and officers could smell alcohol on her when they approached. She had a 0.17 percent blood alcohol content and was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving on a suspended license and given citations for having no operator's license, no registration and no form of insurance.Â
arrested a 21-year-old Detroit man July 13 about 12:30 a.m. near Harper and Allard following a traffic stop for defective brake lights for operating a vehicle in the presence of drugs. The man smelled of marijuana when the officer approached and provided false information about his identity. A blood sample was gathered and sent to Michigan State Police for analysis, according to a report.Â
Woods police also arrested a 29-year-old Detroit man for drunken driving July 9 at 2:10 a.m. near Anita and Goethe after a traffic stop for speeding. The man was driving 40 in a 25 mile per hour zone after a police officer witnessed him squeal his tires upon exiting a gas station near Mack and Vernier. The man smelled of alcohol but tried to say it was his passenger who smelled, and initially he refused to take a breathalyzer but later agreed. He blew a 0.15 percent, according to a report. In another drunken driving arrest, Woods police arrested a 58-year-old Grosse Pointe man for drunken driving July 8 about 11:30 p.m. near Cook and Blossom Lane after a police officer witnessed the man weaving in and out of lanes and driving 45 miles per hour in a lower zone. The man had a 0.15 percent blood alcohol content. Both men are charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

A Grosse Pointe Shores woman brought a 7-year-old boy to the police department July 8 after finding him riding his bicycle in front of her home by himself. She told officers she thought the boy had ventured too far from his home in Grosse Pointe Woods. Police called the boy's mother and she came to pick him up, according to a report. A mapping program shows the boy was 1.5 miles from his home.Â
