Police Blotter: $4,800 Forged Check Under Investigation
The following information is gathered from the Public Safety Departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

police are investigating check forgery after a resident reported that he discovered his account was missing about $5,000 when accessing information on an ATM Oct. 13. The man investigated further upon arriving home to discover that a check from his account had been cashed for $4,800 and was written to a woman he does not know. The man had previously written the same check to a utility company. The man submitted copies of both checks, each having the same number, and the information he was able to obtain in looking into it, according to a report.
Callers Alert Police of Women Soliciting for Cash
police told two Detroit women that soliciting is not allowed and to stop asking people for money after dispatchers received several 911 complaints about the women. The women told an officer they asked one person for cigarettes. The women said they were walking toward 9 Mile and Mack Avenue and one woman became hostile while officers were talking to them. The women began walking north on Mack Avenue and then began walking south on Mack Avenue. Officers stayed in the area until the women left, according to a report.

Home Break-In
Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 35-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods man Oct. 16 after his soon-to-be ex-wife called police to say he'd broken into her home and refused to leave until she called 911. The woman told responding officers she woke to banging in her house to discover her estranged husband kicking a side door. He eventually broke through the door, entered and pushed her out of the way trying to get upstairs. He then sat on the couch and refused to leave until she called police. On his way out, the man smashed out a glass window and officers found him with bloodied hands at his home. He told officers he was bloody from the pedal on his bicycle being broken off. The man also smelled of alcohol. He was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery, according to a report.

Counterfeit Bill Confiscated
Grosse Pointe Farms police confiscated a counterfeit $50 bill Oct. 16 after a 20-year-old Detroit man tried to use it to pay for goods at the Mack and Moross BP. An employee spotted the counterfeit bill and would not allow the purchase, and then called police. The person trying to use it stayed and explained to police he received it as change from a strip club in Detroit earlier in the day, according to a report.
Drunken Driving Arrests
Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 47-year-old City of Grosse Pointe man about 1:30 a.m. Oct. 16 for drunken driving after stopping him for crossing left of the center line twice near Moross and Kercheval. The officer stopped the man near Grosse Pointe Boulevard and Cambridge, where the man said he was coming from Royal Oak and had been drinking there. He failed field sobriety tests administered and had a 0.15 percent blood alcohol content, according to a report.
Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 22-year-old St. Clair Shores man Oct. 12 for drunken driving after receiving several 911 calls about a possible drunken driver. The man smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and glassy eyes. He denied drinking and failed field sobriety tests. He had a 0.22 percent blood alcohol content, and fresh damage to his vehicle revealed he had struck something while driving. A passenger told officers he struck another vehicle but could not identify the location of the crash. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, refusing a portable breath test and given a citation for hit and run, according to a report.
Teens in Possession of Cigarettes, Rum
Grosse Pointe Farms police stopped two teenagers Oct. 14 outside of football game for underage smoking. While talking to the teens, the officer discovered one had a bottle of rum in her purse. She smelled of alcohol and had a 0.06 percent blood alcohol content. The other teen was also tested. She had a 0.004 percent blood alcohol content. The cigarettes and alcohol were confiscated and destroyed. Officers contacted the parents of both girls and both were turned over to a parent, according to a report.
Series of Thefts Investigated
police are investigating the theft of an iPod and cash from a vehicle parked in the 900 block of University Place that happened overnight and was reported Oct. 16. The resident said he and his wife were not aware of any suspect. Meanwhile, officers believe the iPod was recovered in an arrest made in Grosse Pointe Park that happened between the time of the theft and when the resident reported it, according to a report.Â
In another similar report, officers are investigating the theft of four small utility knives from a Jeep parked in the 800 block of Rivard Boulevard that also occurred overnight and was reported early Oct. 16. The contents of the vehicle were scattered around inside, and a DVD player not belonging to the Jeep's owner was taken into police evidence, according to another report.
In another similar report, officers are investigating the theft of a wallet from a vehicle parked in the 600 block of Lincoln overnight Oct. 11. Two vehicles were ransacked overnight and the wallet is the only immediate valuable item stolen as far as the victims could recall, according to a report.
During the same time frame, a purse was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 800 block of University Place, according to another report.
Car Stolen After Keys Left in Door Lock
City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating the theft of a black Toyota Corolla from the 16900 block of Kercheval Avenue on Oct. 11. The vehicle was parked there and the driver left the keys in the door lock, leaving the car from 5:45 p.m. to 1 a.m. Upon returning to the vehicle, it was gone, according to a report.
Suspicious Man Discovered to be Crossing Guard
A 53-year-old man reported a suspicious person near Mack Avenue and Lakeland Oct. 14 to City of Grosse Pointe police. During follow-up, officers discovered the suspicious man to be a crossing guard at a nearby intersection, according to a report.
Man Arrested After 2 Reports
City of Grosse Pointe police arrested a man Oct. 13 about 1 a.m. after a woman called to report he was banging on her back door. Officers responded to a complaint earlier this month from the same woman after the man was spotted breaking out all of her car windows in the middle of the night. He left the home before officers arrived but was found a short time later, stopped and arrested. During his arrest, officers discovered he had been drinking alcohol and had an open container in the car. He was charged with open intoxication in a motor vehicle and never receiving a license. He also had two outstanding warrants, according to a report.
Valet Service Stopped
Grosse Pointe Woods police alerted a Robusto's manager Oct. 14 at 8:30 p.m. that employees were not able to offer valet parking at the restaurant without a permit. The manager agreed not to park any other vehicles until a permit was obtained and alerted the owner of the restaurant of the issue, according to a report.
