STATE CHAMP: Grosse Pointe South's Catherine DeLoof Wins Title in 100 Freestyle
Several strong performances help Grosse Pointe South finish fourth in the team competition at the Division 2 swimming and diving state finals.
freshman Catherine DeLoof won the Division 2 state championship in the 100-yard freestyle Saturday at Holland, according to the MHSAA.
DeLoof recorded a time of 50.80 seconds in winning the event at the state finals.
Alexandra DeLoof was third in the 100 free with a time of 51.52 seconds, and Cassandra Morse placed 11th in the 100 free in 53.74 seconds for the Blue Devils.
Their performances helped Grosse Pointe South finish fourth in the team competition with 215 points.

Holland won the team title with 419 points. Birmingham Seaholm finished second with 288 points, and Birmingham Groves was third with 216 points.

- Alexandra DeLoof and Gabrielle DeLoof finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 backstroke. Alexandra had a time of 54.68 seconds, and Gabrielle had a time of 56.99 seconds.
- Gabrielle DeLoof was third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:06.53.
- Catherine DeLoof was fourth in the 50 free in 23.77 seconds.
- Anne Crowley placed 12th in the 100 butterfly in 59.92 seconds.
- Cassandra Morse placed 14th in the 200 freestyle in 1:57.93.
- Megan Brooks was 10th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.96.
- Grosse Pointe Southβs 200 medley relay team of Alexandra DeLoof, Megan Brooks, Gabrielle DeLoof and Catherine DeLoof finished third with a time of 1:45.47.
- The Blue Devils placed fifth in the 200 free relay in 1:39.91. Members of the team were Morse, Katherine Graham, Crowley and Amy Krausmann.
- Grosse Pointe Southβs 400 free relay team of Gabrielle DeLoof, Morse, Alexandra DeLoof and Catherine DeLoof was second in 3:28.63.
The top-eight finishers in each event earned all-state honors.
