Businesses Receive Approval from City of Grosse Pointe Council

Council members approved a variety of business requests Monday, including the addition of windows to the back of the future Green Zone Pizza.

Village goers are likely going to notice some changes in the coming months after the council approved alterations requested by business owners.Β

The owner of the future Green Zone Pizza submitted a site plan Monday receiving council's approval to add five windows along the back of the buildingβ€”facing the Trader Joe's loading zone.Β

Original plans included one large window with an awning but the revised plans call for five smaller windows and no awning. The plans were reviewed and recommended for approval by the city's contracted assessor, John Jackson.

Markus Wiederkehr, owner of the restaurant that will feature pizza made with local ingredients and gluten-free options, said the construction has been delayed a few times due to small planning glitches. Still, he is energetic about the most recent plans meeting the requirements of the many different organizations that must approve them. The restaurant has been redesigned to increase the seating to about 70 and incorporates two bathrooms, he has told Patch.

Another change Village goers are likely to see involves . Outdoor sales displays have been approved for the area on Kercheval Avenue just past the revolving door entrance; on Notre Dame between Kercheval Avenue and the parking lot entrance in the back; and next to the automatic door entrance off the parking lot behind the building.Β

The original plans for the Notre Dame Street side included outdoor seating but there is not enough space to incorporate such seating without blocking the path for pedestrians, according to the special use request.Β

A third site plan reviewed by council Monday also received approval. Comfort Care, a nonmedical senior home care business, received approval for their sign to be hung on the front of the building at 18150 Mack Ave.
