Wayne County Connected to National Child Prostitution Sting

A massive crackdown on child prostitution rescued more than 100 minors and apprehended 150 individuals across the country, including those with ties to Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

Locally, Operation Cross Country VII agents made arrests in hotels in Dearborn, Romulus, Roseville and other southeastern Michigan communities, bringing 10 children to safety and nabbing dozens of alleged pimps and suspected criminals, Channel 7 reports. 

Detroit ranked second of the 76 targeted cities for the successful recovery of juveniles in the three-day sting, according to the television station.

“Child prostitution remains a persistent threat to children across America,” Ron Hosko, assistant director of the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division, said Monday in a prepared statement. 

“This operation serves as a reminder that these abhorrent crimes can happen anywhere and that the FBI remains committed to stopping this cycle of victimization and holding the criminals who profit from this exploitation accountable," Hosko said.
