• Accomplishment: Four teams competed at the Michigan China Quiz Bowl, three taking first place and the fourth taking second place. 
• Key to Success: The annual competition sponsored by the Wayne State University Confucius Institute focuses on Mandarin language and Chinese geography. The quiz bowl style competition had 46 teams compete this year and include students at middle and high school levels. The Academy teams went to the competition with Chinese teacher Yandan Wang and the two eighth grade teams advanced to the final round against each other. Cavataio, Homsy, McCarren and Schaller took first place in that round and Charles Becker, Jared Brush, McCalla Mecke and Jack Weaver took second place. The quiz bowl competition is meant to encourage learning a foreign language with an emphasis on Chinese.
