Grosse Pointe Woods OKs Funds for Seniors

city council unanimously approved a plan Moday to give almost $78,000 in federal and county funds to the Services for Older Citizens.

The city will give additional grant money to the Pointe Area Assisted Transportation Services and administration.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is expected to give the Woods $72,043 in the form of Community Development Block Grant funds.

The city also applied for $20,000 from Wayne County, and that amount will be applied to countywide rehab for SOC.

• Council unanimously approved funding for an updated radio system for the Department of Public Works and Parks and Recreation Department. The system will connect the departments with . The radios for the DPW will cost $58,590. To cover the costs, $60,000 in lighting upgrades will be shelved and funding will come from the municipal improvement budget. The radios for the Parks and Recreation Department will cost $5,716, which will be covered by the Parks and Rec Miscellaneous Contractual Services account.
• Council unanimously approved $5,000 in repairs to the Cook School House to make the facility more handicapped-accessible.
• Council unanimously approved the purchase of a new fence for the dog park at . The fence, to be installed by Mr. Fence, will cost $5,554 and will come from the general fund.
