November Writing Contest Story Compilation And Resources

Last month, the Cromaine Library hosted a Choose Your Own Adventure Story Writing Contest. We challenged patrons of all ages to write a story based on the prompt: “It was at that moment when I realized everything changed," and allowed participants to either write a traditional story with one ending, or to write a story that allowed readers to make choices with multiple endings.

We had so many fabulous entries, and many of our participants were gracious enough to allow the community to read their stories. Each writer truly made our prompt their own with stories ranging from dragons, to snowmen, to zombies, to memories, to a magical train. Snuggle up in a warm blanket, make yourself a hot beverage, and enjoy some amazing stories!

While the stories from our Choose Your Own Adventure Writing Contest are complex, there are so many little ways to squeeze in writing for all ages and abilities. If you have been in our Youth Department lately, you may have noticed sticky notes with positive, uplifting messages around the space. Visit the Library to check it out, and add your own positive sticky notes to the collection! Feeling inspired? We also have access to databases that can help you achieve your writing goals. Kanopy offers a video series, How To Write Best-Selling Fiction, which allows you to get a comprehensive, eye-opening, and illuminating survey of the entire writing process, as well as a full breakdown of how dozens of best-selling authors have implemented best practices in their own writing. As an aspiring author, you can expect to gain a wealth of tools that will not only improve your ability to write, but also increase your enjoyment of the craft. Kanopy also offers a class called Writing Great Fiction, which includes of exercises to get you writing and practicing the many techniques you learn. From evoking a scene to charting a plot, this course is a master class in storytelling.Universal Class offers a treasure trove of writing classes that you can work on at your own pace: Creative Writing, Poetry 101, Romance Writing, Mystery Writing, Journaling and Memoir Writing, Historical Fiction Writing, Non-Fiction Writing, and more!
