📰 News we're reading

1. Meet the 2025 all-Livingston County football defense (livingstondaily.com) — Howell football players are heavily represented on the 2025 all-Livingston County defensive team, with standout lineman Jackson Pahl heading to Michigan State as a preferred walk-on. Several other Highlanders earned first-team, second-team, and honorable-mention recognition, underscoring Howell’s strong defensive season against county rivals like Brighton, Hartland, and Fowlerville.

2. Tyrone Township, too, hopes to get ahead of data center surprises (livingstondaily.com) — Local officials in Tyrone Township are rushing to craft rules for data centers after seeing a large hyperscale project proposed in neighboring Howell Township and lawsuits elsewhere in Michigan. With a six‑month moratorium in place, planners are working on an ordinance that could shape if and how future data centers, including hyperscale facilities, locate near Howell-area neighborhoods and infrastructure.

3. Animal sanctuary owner sentenced to 6 months in jail, restitution for cruelty to pigs, llamas, goats (wxyz.com) — A woman who ran an animal sanctuary operation tied to Howell is now serving six months in the Livingston County Jail and must pay $102,000 in restitution after being convicted of animal abandonment and cruelty. She’s barred from contact with any animals, restricted from fundraising on social media, and faces another felony trial in Livingston County next March.

4. What's Going Around in Metro Detroit: Influenza, RSV, COVID, slip and fall injuries, cough, fever (clickondetroit.com) — If you live in Howell or elsewhere in Livingston County, local doctors report a clear rise in respiratory illnesses, including flu, COVID, and likely RSV, along with more slip-and-fall injuries on the ice. A Howell-based family medicine physician and Trinity Health Livingston both note increasing flu and COVID cases as winter sets in, urging residents to take precautions and seek care early if symptoms worsen.
