Park Center for Student Wellness that will centralize health, counseling, fitness, and quiet spaces in one 90,000-square-foot hub by fall 2028. The gift, the largest in university history, will replace more than 30 scattered wellness locations and aims to support students’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Michigan May Get a New Trail Leading to Its Tallest Waterfall (banana1015.com) — State officials are advancing plans for a safer, more accessible trail to Douglass Houghton Falls in Houghton County, including boardwalks and scenic overlooks. The 70-acre site, now dedicated to Michigan veterans and managed through McLain State Park, has already seen road, parking, and memorial upgrades. A second phase backed by federal funds still needs National Park Service approval.

Military care package drive sends record number of gifts to service members (uppermichiganssource.com) — Residents in Houghton can take pride in Michigan Tech’s Young Americans for Freedom chapter, which just completed its most successful military care package drive yet. Working with Hubbell VFW Post 4624, students shipped 78 boxes totaling 692 pounds, plus 785 letters, to service members at four U.S. bases and 11 countries, with deliveries expected to arrive by Christmas and plans in place to continue the tradition next year.

Michigan's Upper Peninsula Voted Best U.S. Destination for Snow Three Years in a Row (banana1015.com) — Houghton gets a shout-out as part of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, which has just been voted the best U.S. destination for snow for the third year in a row. The piece highlights the U.P.’s winter sports, snowy scenery, and events in places like Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie that many Houghton residents regularly visit or travel through.
