Here are the top three stories today in Lansing-East Lansing:

  1. The American Cancer Society will be hosting its first-ever "Run the Bunyan" relay race in Michigan this summer to raise funds for cancer research and patient services. Details for the course's route are still being finalized, but the run will be taking place between East Lansing and Ann Arbor. Teams can be from five to 10 people, and they can either fundraise $400 or pay the premium for their team, which increases every three weeks. The race will be taking place Aug. 19 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; you can register by clicking on the link here. (FOX 17 West Michigan News)
  2. This weekend, families are making their way to Lansing to enjoy some nice weather and time with their loved ones for Youth Day. Today from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Youth Day will be hosted at Hunters Orchard Park on West Old River Road Trail; the event is free to anyone who would like to attend. For more information on the event, as well as to register for lunch, click herel. (WILX)
  3. The state of Michigan is looking for more parents to consider fostering children, hoping to make a dent in the large population of children in the foster care system. To help, St. Vincent Catholic Charities is offering informational sessions, private sessions, and anything that will take the stress out of welcoming a child in. Two public information sessions will be held: one today at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Hope Church in Lansing, and another at St. Thomas Aquinas in East Lansing on May 24 at 4:00 p.m. for anyone who is interested in learning more about adopting and/or fostering children.
