Here are the top three stories today in Lansing-East Lansing:

  1. A local Girl Scout troop is donating 150 boxes of cookies to Michigan State University (MSU) students as a show of support a month after the Feb. 13 shooting on campus. Troop co-leader Lisa Leibrand said, "People love cookies, so I really think it has an impact on the community, at MSU, and in the Girl Scout community. Just because with all that's going on, the act of kindness goes a long way for some of these students." (WLNS)
  2. Michigan State University announced that the women's basketball team's head coach Suzy Merchant will be stepping down effective immediately. The team's associate head coach Dean Lockwood will be the team's interim head coach as the university conducts a national search for a new head coach for the team. Merchant leaves the team after 16 seasons, during which the team reached two Big Ten titles in 2011 and 2014 and made it to the NCAA Tournament 10 times. (Michigan State Athletics)
  3. East Lansing High School's principal Shannon Mayfield formally resigned on Friday, Mar. 10, according to the district superintendent on Monday. Mayfield started in his role in the fall of 2022 but has been off of work since Jan. 25, citing personal reasons. Interim principal Ashley Schwarzbek, who took over for Mayfield after he went on leave, will continue in the position for now until the district discusses what to do next. (WLNS)
