LAFCU Back-to-School Extravaganza accepting school supplies, donations

School supply drive through Sat., Aug. 19 at 10 branches

The community is invited to participate in a back-to-school donation drive to help ease the financial burden for parents and prepare hundreds of kids for a successful school year.

The Back-to-School Extravaganza is a collaboration between LAFCU, Two Men & A Truck, and The Village Lansing.

Donations can be dropped off through Saturday, Aug. 19, at any of LAFCU’s 10 branch locations during business hours. A list of LAFCU branches can be found at www.lafcu.com/contact-us/locations/branch-locations.

School supplies needed for donation include:

  • Backpacks
  • Notebook paper
  • Three-ring binders
  • Pencils and pencil bags
  • Pens
  • Rulers
  • Pocket folders
  • One-subject notebook tablets
  • Index cards
  • Crayons
  • Colored pencils
  • Erasers
  • Kids’ scissors
  • Glue sticks
  • Composition notebooks
  • Highlighters
  • Dry-erase markers
  • Geometry sets
  • Hole punchers

Personalized hygiene supplies needed include:

  • Toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, shampoo and conditioner, all in travel size.
  • Toothbrushes
  • Sanitary pads
  • Disinfecting wipes
  • Tissues

Free backpack pick-ups of the donated supplies for K-12 students will be at the second annual ‘Back-to-School Extravaganza’ Saturday, Aug. 26, at The Village Lansing, 3525 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Suite G, in Lansing, from noon to 3 p.m., or while supplies last.

“The Back-to-School Extravaganza event is a wonderful way for the community to rally together to ensure kids have the necessary materials to have a solid start to the school year, as well as reduce stress on parents or guardians due to the cost of back-to-school expenses,” said Shelia Scott, LAFCU’s community financial education & business development officer.
