Here are the top three stories today in Lansing-East Lansing:
- Michigan State University will award posthumous degrees to the three students who were killed in the mass shooting at the university, namely Arielle Anderson, Brian Fraser, and Alexandria Verner. The students' families will accept the degrees during graduation ceremonies from May 4-13. Anderson and Verner will receive bachelor of science degrees, while Fraser will receive a bachelor of arts degree, all in East Lansing. (Lansing State Journal)
- The East Lansing Human Rights Commission organized a coffee and conversation session at PappaRoti on Trowbridge Road in East Lansing. The recent forum allowed the community to discuss ways to express solidarity and allyship with the Iranian women's movement to end discrimination and oppression. Attendee Yasi Zamani-Hank said that discussions like these are essential for supporting and finding ways to be a voice for those who are being silenced in their fight for human rights. (WILX)
- East Lansing and Jackson will host "No Mow in May." The initiative, where residents can refrain from cutting their backyard grass to support the growth of food sources for bees and other pollinators, only applies to backyards. Enforcement will return on Jun. 1. (WILX)
