Registration to open for David & Thu Brulé YMCA of Marquette County Winter 1 programming (uppermichiganssource.com) — Families in Marquette County can soon sign up for the YMCA’s Winter 1 session, which begins in January and uses the new field house opening January 5. Programs include youth and adult swim lessons, clinics, gymnastics, fitness clubs, and new soccer, tennis, and pickleball offerings. Registration opens December 22 for members and December 29 for nonmembers.
   

2. Combination bar & laundromat in the works in Marquette (uppermichiganssource.com) — Marquette’s city commission has unanimously recommended a new Development District liquor license for Sips and Suds, LLC, paving the way for a combined bar and laundromat at 629 North Third Street. The proposal has already been reviewed by city police, fire, community development, and finance departments, and now moves on to state-level agencies for further approval.
   

3. Economic Club of Marquette County dinner discusses updates with city of Marquette (wzmq19.com) — Community and business leaders gathered in Marquette to hear updates on city growth, infrastructure, and housing, along with details on an upcoming Marquette Area Public Schools bond proposal. City Manager Karen Kovacs highlighted major projects and the importance of partnerships fostered at the Economic Club dinners. The next dinner is set for January 19, with more speakers listed online.
   

4. Marquette county businesses offer tips on keeping pipes thawed this winter (uppermichiganssource.com) — With another Upper Peninsula winter settling in, Marquette County homeowners are getting practical advice from Negaunee-based contractors on how to keep pipes from freezing and bursting. Local experts explain how snow cover, steady indoor heat, dripping faucets, and proper insulation can prevent costly basement floods and major repair bills as temperatures keep dropping.
