1. Muskegon names downtown traffic circle after attorney with 41 years of service (mlive.com) — Muskegon is honoring longtime city attorney John C. Schrier by naming the downtown Terrace Street traffic circle after him, recognizing 41 years of legal service to the city. Schrier is shifting to part-time while assistant attorney Brennen Gorman steps into the lead role, and the new “John C. Schrier Circle” sign is expected to go up this spring.

Snowmobiler found dead in lake was professor at Muskegon Community College (wwmt.com) — Muskegon Community College is mourning longtime music director and professor Daniel Meyers, who died in a snowmobile accident in Mason County alongside a Grand Haven friend. MCC leaders praise his 15 years of impact on ensembles, humanities courses, and campus facilities, and say counseling and support will be available when students return from winter break on January 12.

3. Woman dies in crash involving pickup truck, school bus in Muskegon County (fox17online.com) — A woman from our area died Monday afternoon after the pickup she was riding in collided with a Holton Public Schools bus on Holton Road in Muskegon County’s Cedar Creek Township. State police say no children were on the bus, and both drivers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries while investigators work to determine why the pickup lost control.

4. 'This broke my heart': Muskegon taco stand owner responds after propane tanks go missing (fox17online.com) — A Muskegon family-run taco stand, Tacos El Volcán, had four propane tanks stolen over the weekend, the second such theft since opening in 2023. Despite the loss, owner Enrique Torres says he’ll keep serving customers Monday through Saturday and is considering adding security cameras to protect the business.

5. 'Firepower' and experience bolster 18-man USA Sevens squad for SVNS 2 (rugbypass.com) — Muskegon native Aaron “AC” Cummings has been named to the 18-man USA Men’s Eagles Sevens player pool for the 2026 SVNS 2 season, putting a local athlete on rugby’s international stage. The squad will train in California and compete in tournaments in Kenya, Uruguay, and Brazil as they push to earn promotion back to the top SVNS division.
