Heads Shaved in Chesterfield Township for Great Lakes Burn Camp Fundraiser
The event raised money for Great Lakes Burn Camp in Kalamazoo.
Three individuals in Chesterfield Township have big hearts and less hair.
During a fundraiser for the Great Lakes Burn Camp in Kalamazoo, retired township fire Lt. Dawn Murphy-Shaw, Trustee Christine Bell and Stevie B's Manager Lee Boisvert shaved their heads Tuesday night.
Murphy shaved her head three years ago and raised more than $7,000 to help send 11 kids to the camp. She's been involved with helping the camp after her friend Chris Boyd introduced her to it, she said.
She said shedding 15 inches of hair helped her cope with the heat earlier this week.
"It’s a lot cooler that’s for sure," she said. "I was glad when it came off because it felt so good.”
Teresa Woodruff, owner of G'Alena's Salon in Chesterfield Township, shaved their hair and Lauren Chisholm, camper from Great Lake Burn Camp, also pitched in during Murphy's haircut.
Donations are still being accepted at the main fire station on 23 Mile or by emailing Murphy at tazdcm@yahoo.com.
